seht - christian jesus, I will determine a suicide

Foxglove CDR, 2006

"sailing on seas of light, seht's (aka stephen clover) latest journey begins as a damaged boat heading toward the edges of oblivion. even as it sinks into its icy grave, the victorian-inspired sounds of whimsy and celebration echo through the caustic waves. this music is ghostly and soothing. but everything takes a turn for the worse as clover heads into the home stretch. metallic sludge rises and falls, churning up everything in its path like a tornado destined to find the gates of hell. these dark and murky drones leave everything to the imagination, but you have to jump in headfirst, as seht is not here to hold your hand. as usual, stephen clover produces another mesmerzing, ambient masterpiece."

What they said...

"Stephen Clover is rapidly becoming a master of disturbing ambience after some great releases for CPsiP, Audiobot etc. This opens with a mesmerizing siren-call of submerged strings and distant voices and sinks slowly into a dark pool of decaying beats. The second track evokes thunder rolling across pylon-studded plains - high wire hum and ominous drone."

"Stephen Clover, AKA Seht, is easily one of my favorite current NZ sound makers. Christian Jesus. I Will Determine a Suicide illustrates his drone prowess with two longer pieces of ambient haze that combine mechanized pulse and organic breath into deep minimal workouts. Seht brings to mind any number of masters in the genre while largely sidestepping the expected NZ “free noise” vernacular."

"Digitalis Industries/Foxglove releases a lot these days, most in the folk and psychedelic rock range. But sometimes a different gem comes across. And this is one of those different ones. Seht creates soundscapes by layering loops of sounds over each other. This of course is nothing special in itself, but the sounds chosen are so great that the end result is haunting and spooky. It is a great dark trip into the more experimental ambient fields. The music on this CD reminds me a lot of saule who released an album on Sub Rosa. If Seht created these sounds (mainly in the first track) with record players also is something I don't know, but that is of course not important. It's the end result and that is something that really deserves more attention. Another great release coming from the digitalis industries/foxglove imprint. Haunting, spooky drones and ambient. For those who are into stuff like saule and in a lesser way Philip Jeck should really check this out."
